Gumdrops and Lollipops

What is this all about? Life? As I watch my kids grow and play, and become little people of their own, the answer becomes clear. Gumdrops and lollipops is what it's all about. That little bit of extreme happiness that hits you the moment you are about to pop that gumdrop into your mouth. The fine feeling of unwrapping that brand new lollipop you so carefully picked out from the pile or bag.

I get this excitement when I watch my kids trying to learn new things and master new skills. Recently, Aaron and I have taken on the trial of teaching Kara how to ride her bike without training wheels. This is no easy feat. Teaching a child to not be scared of falling is a lot like trying to convince someone a fork in the eye really is comforting.

Teaching her how to ride her bike without these crutches on the side is rather difficult and so we are taking an approach of practice makes perfect. The bad news is, she can't ride it yet and is refusing to have the training wheels put back on!

So the saga of watching her learn a new skill is daunting and exciting. And when she masters it, it will be that feeling of gumdrops and lollipops!
